Baptism of Mr. Moore

Thanksgiving time be comin!

Hey y'all!

This whole eating thing is reeeally getting to be a trial of mine. This week I got to see brother moore be baptized!!!! Oh my goodness that was probably one of the most humbling experiences in my life. To see the man he was before and now is literally a night and day difference. He was so weak he could barely talk but before they took him away he called to me and sister hood to come over and see him. We knelt by his hospital bed and he grabbed my hand and said "thank you" I was just happy he remembered who i was but nothing could compare to that feeling. He was taken down into the baptismal font with 3 men carrying him on a chair. Me and sister Hood(my trainer) were hanging on the edge of our seats the whole time!! it was a liiiittle nerve racking! He came out glowing of course! He was talking more than he had been able to the past 2 weeks and he was smiling! BROTHER MOORE DOES NOT SMILE! it was a day of miracles indeed.

Another miracle! About 2 months ago we ran in to this lady named carla and she had just quit drinking and wanted to find a chruch to raise her daughters in. we set up a church tour and forgot to get her address! when she didnt show up to the church tour we were so sad we couldnt follow up with her! A week later we saw her walking and she got into her car too fast we couldnt talk with her! we look for her everytime we're in those apartments!(relevent for this next story)

So our investigator Angela hasn't been doing to well lately and we've been really really trying to find new investigators. We asked her if her has anyone she knows we could teach but Angela is rarely ever leaves her home unless she is going to see her mom but one day seh mentioned she had a friend that lives a few atp complexes over and for some reason I felt that it was HER that we needed to talk with. Angela said she had no idea which one she lived in so i just pushed away the prompting. The very next day we were looking in our potentials list and i felt we needed to go and see justin in apt #101. A little girl answered the door and Sister Johnson looks at me with big eyes and whispers "its carla! its carla!" She lets us in and tells us she was baptized at age 14 but has been inactive since. We share a lesson with her and her daughters and her 11 year old daughter was begging her mom to be baptized the whole time and she is The more we talked she told us there was a cute girl and her daughter they just recently started hanging out with named angela! MY MIND WAS BLOWN! Everything connected and i was just amazed we found her the very next day by planning to go to someone else! MIRACLES!

There is no doubt in my mind that the Lord is behind this work. There is absolutely no other way this could be accomplished. I will forever be greatful for the amazing things my Heavenly Fatehr is teaching me out here. I have never had to rely on my Savior the way i am out here and I have grown so much because of it! I will forever be greatful for His atoning sacrafice that gives me the capacity to change my very nature and become more! I Love living the gospel. There is no greater joy or happiness than doing the will of my Father in Heaven and inviting others to do the same!! I love you all sooo much and I hope you have an amazing thanksgiving! There is just so much to be greatful for! LOVE YOU ALL!!

"As we continue to live and act in this way, we then accumulate “a great cloud of witnesses”, which allows us to continue on with ever greater faith, in fulfillment of this wonderful admonition from the apostle Paul:"

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and the finisher of our faith.

Death (FAREWELL) to Elder Whiting! He returns home on Dec. 3rd! THE CRAZY THINGS MISSIONARIES DO!

Kelly, Levi and Sister Preston!

Hey erybody!
I fell like i talked to you yesterday so im not quite sure what to say..OH ok i have something. Well of course we saw miracles cause miracles are everywhere. We have 2 new investigators on date to be baptized!!! and the best part is THEY ARE ELECT! We go to teach the first discussion and she says"Well im not use to all this so i really want to study and find out if its true for myself."....i just sat there in pure amazement as she litereally stole the begin teaching points I was just about to say! The best part is..her son is even MORE ELECT!! He is the most adorable 11 year old in the whole world. The moment he we come in he runs and grabs his Bible to read with us. I have never seen someone so happy as him when we gave him his own book of Mormon! Oh my goodness. After we invited him to be baptized he said "yes, but when can i recieve the priesthood?" hahahah HE IS AMAZING!

Speaking of elect children! My most favortie family in the belle terre ward is the fletchers! The dad has a CRAZY conversion story and for the last year has been the most faithful saint I have ever seen. they have been preparing to enter the temple and plan to this the beginning of next year! they have pictures of temples all over their home its so awesome. But their son levi is so amazing!! He's about 8 and when he was taking the missionary discussions he went to church and (before he ever hear the first vision) he asked his dad "Is this the church the little boy saw God?" Then he said "oh good. This is a good one dad." He's the most spiritually in tune little boy I have ever met. He's so smart! it was hilarious..each year he gets to pick his birthday cake and his paretns try to create it.. so this year since they have been talking so much about temples but he loves baptisms he wants his brthday cake to be a baptismal font like the one in the temple! hahahahaha his parents are trying to figure out how thye'll pull that one off haha but they said we could help! haha
Sister preston: The bishop sent us a name that has their records just recently moved in from the washington jail or prison(dont remember) and when we go to see her I was stunned. I thought to myself "there is no way she went to prison she is so sweet!" We invited her to come to church and she has been coming the past 2 weeks! She has the most amazing story! She has been inactive her whole life until her husband was baptised. He died a week later and she says it was the hardest thing she has ever been through. She asked us for help to prepare her to go to the temple so she can be sealed to him. while she was in jail she attened a lds church every week and read throught the book of mormon and d&c 3 times! She prayed to Heavenly Father to help her learn more about the bible and it was that very day we showed up and asked her to do a bible study! We were all crying as she told her story of everything she has been through and she has given up everything so she can come here and prepare to go to the temple. I'm so excited for her!
We had a meeting with our Bishop, ward mission leaders and Ward missionaries to get them to assist us in this new goal to baptize weekly. When Pres mullen found out He left a meeting with the stake presidents that he was asked to speak at just so he could come to our little meeting! It was so humbling to know see how much he truly loves this work and will do anything for his missionaries to help them out! That meant so much to us! I hope no matter what situation I am in I will always choose to do what the Savior would. His work truly is so important and i am so happy to be a small part of it! Have an amazing week I love you all and am praying for you!!:)

Sister Scott is an Auntie once again!!

It is my honor.. NAY!..PRIVELEDGE! to announce that I shall now be known a missionary auntie scott! shout out to my new adorable nephew talon kade showgchrogchk .

Sorry for being so late ya'll but duty calls and I am on the lords errand! This has been an awesome week! So we had a huge mission conference with our president because he received some counsel from an apostle that our baptismal rates need to be doubled. That means each missionary needs to be baptizing WEEKLY. uuuuuh I don't know about you guys but I haven't been apart of a baptism since the first week I came into the field.... sooo I feel like the lord has just asked me to build a ship..in the middle of a dessert... that has just collapsed from an earthquake. Just as those thought entered my mind I felt the words "I don't need lamen and lemules..I need Nephi's." It was that moment on that I decided that I don't care what my worldly outlook on our situation might be but I will "go forward in faith" because the Lord has asked me to and that is all the reason I need to truly believe we can accomplish this. The Mission president then called in our district(which is the 5 couples of missionaries that serve in our valley area) and He said this standard will be implemented in the whole mission in the next year but for your district it starts now...My heart sunk then at the same time I felt the spirit so strongly that we are not doing this work alone. This is not me or my district hastening the work. This is truly the Lord that is behind it. Even if he asked us to triple or quadrouple the baptismal rate we could just because He id the one that has asked it! I have never felt the spirit so strong than when we were in that meeting and the president asked me to share my testimony of how the Lord has supported me.
nephi 17: 13 And I will also be your alight in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the bpromised land; and ye shall cknow that it is by me that ye are led"

This week I received some information about a man I was teaching in my first area. You might remember how frustrated I got with him and how stubborn he is! He is an atheist who's family are all members. He Had been meeting with us for weeks on end and I have never felt the spirit so strong while teaching then the lessons that we had with him! My companion would get so frustrated with me saying "we need to drop him, we need to drop him" But i felt so strongly that we needed to keep meeting with him just a little longer cause HE KNEW IT WAS TRUE!! He would believe all the lessons we shared and keep all the commitments but he would never admit He knew god was real. He is the only non member i know that has home teachers! ugh It was soo frustrating haha but the last lesson we had with him We gave him the ultimatum and he chose to stop meeting with us and I was completely crushed. I left that area feeling sick every time I thought about brother moore. This week I felt we needed to go to the church to check on this meeting. When we walked through the doors I saw Brother Price(brother moores home teacher) He said "Oh my goodness sister Scott! Im so glad I saw you! I have news about brother moore. He has been admitted to the hospital. They found 7 tumors in his head and gave him 8 weeks to live." Because of this he has decided to meet with the missionaries and desperately wants to be baptized! I was freaking out to say the least. He is paralyzed from the waist down so they are working on teaching him the discussions again and getting him ready for baptism! He keeps telling them he just wants an eternal family and how important this decision is! ugh I could not even tell you the feeling of peace that came over me. This was such a testimony builder to me that everything will happen in the lords timing. He is aware of all of His children and he has a specific plan for each of them, of that I have no doubt!

50 And I said unto them: aIf God had commanded me to do all things I could do them. If he should command me that I should say unto this water, be thou earth, it should be earth; and if I should say it, it would be done.
51 And now, if the Lord has such great power, and has wrought so many miracles among the children of men, how is it that he cannot ainstruct me, that I should build a ship?

Im workin on my tools to make a ship! Get ready Spokane. Ya..I'm pumped. I love being a missionary so much! Love you all have an awesome week!

This is the pizza train and this is the booth i set up for indoor trunk or treat for our ward! (yes that is a ghost missionary) HAPPY HALLOWEEEN ya'll

Post Halloween and other things!

Hey people!

SO many miracles this week! I love being a missioanry. so the work is pickin up! We had an awesome primary program and this little boy named tyler that is a non menber has been coming with a member family in our ward and he invited his mom! she went to all three hours of church and now wants to meet with us!! they have been through a lot and she described the church as "feeling like home" to her. Music to a sisters ears.

One day we went to the gas station to check oil and fill up the tires with air (I can do that now cause im awesome) we were strugglin a bit getting the hood open and this suuper nice man comes up to us and says hey "your sister missionaries right"? we said ya! and he said "well let me help you out!" He has tatoos all over(which means he's elect) and a giant beard (even more elect) so i was reaching in my bag to grab a book of mormon to talk to him and even before I could turn around he was gone! I was heart broken cause I really felt we needed to talk to him! Me and sister Johnson made a VOW that day to not pass a single person and talk with everyone. Later that day we were driving to a Less actives and we see this man raking his leaves...we had already stopped at 5 others homes that were outside and nothing had come from it..I looked at sister johnson and said, "one more..we can do it." We ended up talking to him for almost an hour. He is a recovering alcoholic and had been through a lot in the past 5 years and we talked about the savior and his atonement and how he has felt every pain and affliction He has and can lift any burden he has felt. We read from the Book of Mormon in alma 7:11-12 and mosiah 24: (my favorite verses to read to people). He said "Wow i need to get one of those..those verses are beautiful." We gave him the book of mormon and he has been reading everyday since! We have a church tour with him today at 6:30 so im sooo excited to start teaching him! I know without a doubt tho that we would not have stopped if we didnt have that experience at the beggining of the day with the tatoo man! We would not have made that vow and we would not have stopped and met tim!! The Lord is behind everything and He is always leading us to those that are ready.

Halloween was so awesome! We met a lot of crazy people and ate at a place called pizza train! its literally a train. we have a recent convert in or ward that has lived in this government housing his whole life and is the maintenance man in the apartment complex. He is one of the hardest workers i have every met and has sacrifices so much to join the church. Just as he was about to get off work his boss told him to clean up 8 giant piles of leaves before he went home. He was going to miss his halloween party and would have had to spend the whole night alone. On halloween i felt we needed to go see him and we brought our gloves and ended up helping him. It was such an awesome halloween talking with him and how he keeps a posistive attitude always, deticating everything He does to the lord. "It makes everything better and then I dont  feel like im doing it alone" such a tender mercy for me to hear.

I have really been making that my moto. Opposition is how we learn and grow. Thats what has brought the greatest change in me is when I've experienced hard times and become completely reliant upon my Savior. The power the atonement has to lift burdens is real. It is the only way to progres and experience the greatest happiness in becoming more like Him. It increases our natural capacity to overcome all opposition. I feel so much stronger and capable than I have in my whole life and I know thats because of Him.

" The purpose and central blessing of life is change. it is to move from one degree of intelligence to the next, and from there to the next until you see God face to face and know Him as He knows you. "48 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, apray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true bfollowers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall cbe like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be dpurified even as he is pure. Amen. He doesnt see us in terms of yeaterday and today. He sees us in terms of forever. and as we pray and keep that communication with Him, He can direct us to true and lasting happiness. I KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE! i have never experienced a harder and happier experience in my life than my mission and I know its because this is when I've been the closest to Him. I love you all and will see ya'll soon!
